Bigger and Better at SDC

We’re getting bigger and better at Seattle Direct Counseling. Yep, you read that right: WE. [And that is not a reference to a pregnancy, but we are giving birth].

We’re Moving!

On April 1, 2012, Seattle Direct Counseling moves to Suite 364 in the Grand Central Building, just across the hallway from where our office is located now. Besides the standard amenities we’ve been enjoying at the current office, the new office has:

– beautiful large windows on the third floor facing S. Washington (you can see the former Elliot Bay Bookstore on that side).
– enough sunlight to support plants and flowers
– a spacious waiting room, with a planned music center, book shelf with resources, magazine table, water and tea service, and space for artwork.

The suite is currently being cleaned and painted for our move. Pictures and video will be coming very soon!

One Plus One Equals One Practice

Please formally welcome Ms. Allison Bulliman, SDC’s first and newest Associate! Allie starts her work at SDC formally on April 1, 2012.

You can read about her and her work on her landing page located on the website. Her page will be moved to fill a unique menu item on the website shortly; for now it is in a drop-down menu under “About Imei”.

Allie comes with a wealth of energy, enthusiasm, and experience working with people. Through SDC, she’ll be earning supervised hours in her clinical work towards earning her LMHC (Licensed Mental Health Counselor) status. By providing sliding-fee scales to the public, Allie will be helping SDC offer services to a wider variety of individuals and families. The combination of her work along with my counseling and coaching to corporate workers, busy professionals, and artists will make SDC a powerful and encouraging place of change and growth.

Sniff Around While You’re At It

If you’re looking at the website now, take a moment to sniff around. Did you see some changes, including pages that are not yet completed? We’re kicking up a lot of dust to bring you some great services. Upcoming changes include:

– a page about a book-writing project, Designing Your Practice
– new pages involving photography, film, journaling and writing, and movement
– sliding-fee scale to fit the needs of people in work transitions
– guess blog posts on a variety of topics (look for something from Dr. Michelle Mazur, coming soon!)

These additions serve as options to resource you beyond traditional, evidence-based therapy modalities regarding the managing of mental health issues. You may notice none of these modalities include psychotropic medication management. They are being provided as alternatives for those who want to enrich and resource themselves where psychiatry’s reach ends.

We’re growing bigger. We’re getting better at providing more service across multiple economic levels. I really believe Seattle Direct Counseling has the potential to be named one of Seattle’s favorite places and people to receive compassionate, relevant, and effective mental health strategies, coaching, and care. And we’d love your support! Please share with your friends, colleagues, family members, and other supportive resources both in Seattle and nationwide about our work. If you have feedback or input for us, please leave a comment.

Happy Spring!

Imei Hsu, RN, MAC, LMHC, Writer, Artist

Also, if you don’t have insurance, affordable professional services are hard to find. For the month of April 2012, Imei is offering 50% the stated fee for all first-time clients and ANY bookings made in the month of April in celebration of the re-opening of the office in its new space. Here’s the link for the coupon: bring it in, or show it to me on your smart device! http://goo.gl/J6fj9 [Please be advised, you cannot use this coupon if you are using health insurance to cover your visits, as it is a breach of contract with your carrier].
